Day 5, April 25: Rest Day

April 25, 2019January 17, 2024 By 2c4m

No alarm and a late breakfast were followed by trying to find a bike shop to get some replacement tubes and other things.

No, I didn’t get it.

After Ubering to a couple of places, we got what we needed, and John went back to the Eldorado for his scheduled massage while I walked over to pick up the business cards I should have ordered before the trip, but had not – like so many other things. Anyway, while at a rest stop on the way to Carthage, I found Boyett Printing. Since they shared the same name as my paternal grandmother, I figured they must be good. Told them what I wanted, and the next day at a rest stop right before the Sabine River I approved the proof. Makes it easier than having to always find a pen and spell out the website. I like them.

Jealous of John’s foresight in booking a massage, as I was leaving the printer I saw a massage place across the street. I was a little nervous going in, wondering if it were going to be offered a massage or a ‘massage’, but it turned out to be on the up and up.

I’ll come back later and update this post with the story of my Uber ride with Ivory.

We had dinner at one of the restaurants in the Red River development, then returned to the hotel for John to play in the poker tournament and me to work then sleep. While he was playing poker, John was telling folks about our ride. A few of the guys were asking about our route, and advised John we might want to reconsider some of the choices, saying we might find going to El Dorado (pronounced ‘ell dough-RAY-dough’) a bit flatter and have much better lodging opportunities. Our friend Andrew has a friend, Charlie, who lives in El Dorado, and he echoed everything John had been told. It meant a much longer ride for the day – almost a hundred miles – but we decided to do it…meaning getting up early. Ugh.

Not a bad view. We’ll be biking across that bridge in the morning.
