Today starts with our last stretch of major shoulder for a while…I think, since I keep tweaking the route to try to avoid both shoulder and steep hills. We’re a bit concerned by the big storm coming in, but we actually managed to leave a little before 9 and think we’ll avoid the brunt.
Fairly uneventful morning (hooray for no tube drama!), and at lunch we cross over into Louisiana at the town of Bethany. We grab lunch at a Mexican restaurant that Google and Apple Maps still think is something else, then finally get on a nice, long section of back road before getting into the outskirts of Shreveport and the first rain bands. Our path along old 79 does not present Shreveport in its best light, with a host of old abandoned buildings testifying to bustling commercial activity that has long past.

Weeknights at casinos are not the most happening of times, so the El Dorado offers great rates to get folks to come in. We took advantage of the this and each got our own room. After cleaning up and ironing the nice set of clothes, we went down and had dinner at the steak house.
